The Providence Civic Orchestra of Senior Citizens, under the direction of Vito A. Saritelli, is a group of talented musicians who perform at elementary schools, nursing homes, senior centers and assisted living facilities. Since it's establishment in 1977, the orchestra has attracted musicians from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose ages range from 55 to 99 years old.

Tthe Providence Civic Orchestra’s dedicated senior musicians have been a source of pride to citizens throughout Rhode Island. Playing before hundreds of people of all ages each year, the orchestra’s program includes music from the classics, operettas, “pop” favorites, and patriotic sing-alongs.

New members are always welcome.

36th Annual Pops Concert, Sunday, October 7, 2012

It has always been said that the best feeling one can have is when we do something good for someone else. The ladies and gentlemen who make up our orchestra are fortunate indeed, for they get to experience that nice feeling many times throughout the year. They do so by bringing their talents in music to thousands of senior citizens like themselves and to school children. Quite often their performance is for shut-ins at statewide convalescent and nursing homes who would be unable to see or hear a fine orchestra play a variety of great music. Then there are those concerts at centers for active, hand-clapping and foot-stamping senior citizens or at an elementary school with hundreds of cheering youngsters where the applause never seems to stop. What a great feeling these musicians experience, no matter where they perform! They are loved and appreciated and they feel good about themselves. In addition to enjoying statewide reputation, the orchestra on two occasions in the past, has been singled out on national television as a model on what senior citizens are able to do in America. This year we pay special tribute and honor to our longtime orchestra concertmaster, Frank lacono, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth. Frank's loyalty and dedication to the orchestra since its founding in 1977 has been an inspiration and example of leadership which has contributed greatly to the success that the orchestra enjoys.

We also honor two great songwriters, Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin.

On Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., the orchestra will perform in its 36 th annual pops concert. The location again will be the auditorium of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, 399 Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence. This concert represents the major fund-raising event of the year for the orchestra's ongoing operating expenses, and as with any non-profit and tax-exempt organization such as ours, the necessary and everyday expenses must be met through gifts and donations. We therefore make our annual appeal to friends, old and new. First, please attend the concert on October 7 th to show your support for the orchestra in person. Secondly, become a patron, a sponsor, or a friend of the orchestra and be listed as such in the concert program.

Remember, you too can experience that nice helping-others-feeling by your support in a meaningful way for the ladies and gentlemen of our orchestra who truly deserve your support. Please show them you care!

Kindly print use the tear-off below when making your response, and return it together with your check. Thank you.
